Principle #1: People Face Trade offs

To get something you want, you have to give up something else you want. When choices are made (collectively or by an individual) to accept having less of one thing in order to get more of something else, the results are called trade-offs. It often implies a decision to be made with full comprehension of both the upside and downside of a particular choice.

All people experience facing trade offs. One way or another is deciding on two options. Just like me I experience tradeoff when my friends invited me to go to outing. But I didn’t go because in that day we also have a family outing at Baguio city .At first it’s hard for me to decide because if I choose to go with my friends I will miss the happy bonding with my family and the chance to be more close to them. But if I choose the family outing I also miss the happenings with my friends. It hard for me to choose, but I have to decide. And then I made my decision, I choose to go with my family because my family is the more important than spending my time with my friends. :)
Another experience is when my mother asks me what I want in my 18th birthday; a birthday gift or a birthday celebration. And I decide to choose the 2nd option because I really want to experience the feeling of celebrating your 18th birthday. :)
This means, to get one thing that we like, we usually have to give up another thing that we also like. Making decision requires trading off one goal against another.
